Businessman, politician and philanthropist, Senator Gulzar Ahmed Khan had the presence of a banyan tree providing shelter to all and sundry irrespective of class, creed and culture.
Born on July 5, 1935 at Dera Ismail Khan, Senator Gulzar was a qualified Advocate and a member of High Court Bar. He started his political journey in early 1960s when he was elected as a member and then as Chairman of local council in basic democracies. Through his political acumen and innate leadership skills Senator Gulzar carved his own niche among the political elite of Pakistan. One of the founder members of Pakistan People’s Party, Senator Gulzar had a distinguished political career. He served as Advisor to Prime Minister and as Federal Minister in 1993. Elected to the Senate in 1991, Senator Gulzar was the longest serving senator in the history of Pakistan. During his term, he remained active as member of Standing Committees on Defense and Railways.
A businessman by profession and a politician with great passion, Senator Gulzar devoted his life and energies for the welfare of the people. He sincerely and proudly represented his people and his country at every political forum in Pakistan and all over the world.
